How to tie Obiage

Nagajuban is like underwear, and it is worn underneath the Kimono. Wear Nagajuban. Hold both ends of Eri. Make sure that the seam comes on the center of your back. Hold the both Eri with one hand and pick the seam on the back with the other hand. Make room between the Eri and your neck that is about the size of your fist. While being careful not to pull the Eri, wrap your chest with Shitamae. Put over Uwamae so that the cross section of the two Eri comes to the center. Hold the center of Datejime with your right hand, and bring it to your left with your left hand. Wrap it around your back, get the both sides crossed in the back and bring the ends to the front. Tie it once and turn the ends to the other direction. Tuck the ends underneath the Datejime and remove the wrinkles from the back.   Wear the kimono and hold the Eri at about 1/3 from the ends. Hoist what you are holding until the Suso bearly touches the floor. Determine the width of Uwamae so that the left seam comes to the center of the side of your body. Spread the Uwamae (but remember the width of Uwamae). Pull up the Shitamae (so that it would be higher at the left than at the right) and determine the Shitamae. Pull up the Uwamae (so that it would be higher at the right than at the left) and determine the Uwamae. Make the Uwamae touch your feet. Hold the Koshihimo with your right hand and get it crossed at the back on your hip bones. Tie Koshihimo like a bow but with only one loop. Tuck the ends and the loop underneath the Koshihomo. Insert your hands into the Miyatsuguchi and straighten the Ohashori of both Uwamae and Shitamae. Straightened the both Eri so that the center back comes to the center of your back. Along the Nagajuban’s Eri, determine the Shitamae’s Eri. Insert your left hand into the Miyatsuguchi and hold the Shitamae. Hold the Uwamae with your right hand and straighten the both Eri. Hold the center of the Datejime with your right hand and bring it to the left with your left hand. Cross it in the back and bring the ends to the front. Tie the Datejime once and turn the ends to the other direction. Tuck the ends underneath the Datejime. Remove the wrinkles from the back. Pull the Miyatsuguchi from underneath the Datejime and straighten the Sodetsuke. Done!

This is one of many ways to tie an Obi

Put the Obiita Fold the Obi up in half. Wrap your torso once. Bring the Tesaki to the front and determine the length of the Tesaki as the width of your body plus about 15 cm. Wrap the Obi one more time, and hold the Tesaki with your left hand. Pull out the Tesaki. Wrap the Obi again. Bring the Tesaki to the center of your back, hold it with the Obi underneath. Fold up the Tare while holding the Tesaki. Slide the Karihimo underneath the Tare. Bring the Karihimo to the front and tie it at the center of the Obi. Bring the Tesaki to the front and temporarily hold it with the Karihimo. Widen the Tare in the back. Put another Karihimo on the widened Obi. Lift the end of the Tare (about 7-8 cm from the edge) onto your waist and tie another Karihimo. Hold the Obimakura up side down Put the Obimakura underneath the Obi. Rotate the Obimakura so that the flat part touches your back (This gives the Obi volume). Bring the strings of the Obimakura front and tie them on your left. Tuck the strings underneath the Obi. Put the Obiage over the Obimakura (underneath the Obi). Bring the Obiage to the front and tie it temporarily. Untie the second Karihimo Tuck up the Tare under the Karihimo. Determine the bottom line of the Otaiko, then tie the Karihimo at the front. Untie the first Karihimo. Bring the Tesaki to the back. Put the Tesaki into the Otaiko Put the Obijime on the center of the Tesaki Tie the Obijime at the front. Remove the two Karihimo and straightened the Obiage.   Wrap Obijime over Obi once. Make the both the ends equal length, and tie them once. Make a loop with the upper end, and put the lower end into the loop. Secure the knot and tuck the ends into the Obijime   Wrap Obiage above Obi once. Make the both the ends equal length, and tie them once Make a loop with the upper end by folding it downward, and put the lower end into the loop. Put the knot in the Obi and tuck the ends between Obi.
